Gelding
A gelding is a male thoroughbred that has been castrated.
Horses are gelded mainly to improve focus and temperament — a studdish colt that won't concentrate often settles once gelded. The trade-off is that a gelding has no breeding value, so its worth is entirely on the track; many of racing's durable, hard-knocking veterans are geldings.
